      Lexington 1884-1984

      Lyle Garnet Crane, son of Benjamin Franklin Crane and wife Anna Frances Amerman, was born June 13, 1889 in Butler County, KS; died March 16, 1974 at the Kansas Soldiers Home, Fort Dodge, Ford County, KS; buried Fort Dodge Cemetery; married June 4, 1929 at Coldwater, Comanche County, KS to Mrs. May Dodson. May was born April 26, 1889 at Marston, New Madrid, MO; died July 14, 1977 at the Kansas Soldiers Home, Fort Dodge; buried Fort Dodge Cemetery; married July 18, 1916 in Arkansas to Herman Dodson (divorced); married second Lyle Garnet Crane. Lyle adopted May's son by her first marriage, Charles W. (Dodson) Crane born 1925.

      Census records show that Lyle resided in the James and Lucy Morrison family in 1910 and 1915 and worked on their farm. In 1925 he is listed as a farmer in Lexington Township. In 1928 he was residing on the Henry Rogers place and continued to live there after he and May were married. They later resided for a time on the Charlie Pike farm south of the Coyote School. The subsequently resided at Newkirk, OK; Taloga, OK; and at Protection, KS. Besides engaging in farming, Lyle was a carpenter and minister. Based on his military service in WW I, Lyle and May were eventually admitted to the Kansas Soldiers Home at Fort Dodge, where they lived their remaining years.
