254 | It's a Long Way to Dakota From Page 36a in Hildred's album The person, who is not positively identified, is probably Hildred. This picture, although it's not very good as far as quality, is interesting from historical and family history perspectives. First, it shows the miserable condition of the roads in those days. The picture was apparently taken on what is now U.S. Highway 61 which has been a four-lane road between Winona and Dakota since about 1958. Secondly, it shows that there was a strong attraction from the Dakota area for Hildred which is, no doubt due to her high school romance with Rolland Harvey Wilson, her classmate whom she eventually married. |

264 | John Wilson and Two Others in St. James, MN Theresa Kohn and Patrick Wilson were looking at this photo of John Henry Wilson taken in St. James, MN, and were trying to determine who the other two people are. John is sitting in the center. St. James is near Antrim Township where there were Caswell, Holcomb, and Wilson cousins. The other two men in the photo are about the same age as John. If they are cousins, that would make them Caswell cousins, possibly Asahel, Chance, Samuel, or Thomas. We don’t have any photos of Caswells to prove that, and so we are were wondering if anyone can recognize these two other personse? The photo is interesting because John and the guy on the left are wearing two pairs of pants. John’s outer pair is frayed and stained. They have arm bands at their elbows. They’re dressed for work, but we don’t know what kind. |
