W.H. McANALLY ANSWERS CALL
Well known and highly respected citizen died Friday
after many months of sickness.
W.H. McAnally, highly repected and well-known citizen
of this place passed away Friday morning at his home here. His
death was not altogether unexpected for he has been gradually
failing for the past year. However right up to the day of his death
he has been getting out of bed each morning at the accustomed
hour and Thursday walked through the house with slight
assistance and tookhis chair in the kitchen. He was a sufferer
with kidney trouble and a year ago the disease began to fasten
its hold on him and he gradually failed until death came to relieve
him.
William Henry McAnally was born in Auburn, DeKalb
county, Indiana, May 3, 1854, and passed away at his home in
Lehigh, September 5, 1924, aged 78 years, 3 months and 28 days.
He lived with his parents in Indiana until a young man grown,
coming to this state in 1866. October 6, 1867, he was united in
marriage to Miss Kate Corey, the wedding taking place at
Border Plains. The following year they moved to Cass County,
Missouri, where they remained fifteen years, returning to Iowa
and locating in Lehigh in 1883, where they have since resided.
Ten children are left to mourn the loss of a kind and loving
father, S.C. and Wm. McAnally of Fort Dodge; Frank and Newell
McAnally of this place; Mrs. Jess Roberts of Lehigh; Mrs. H.H.
Mickelson of Webster City, mrs. N.B. Nelson of Fort Dodge,
Mrs. Fred Rolfe and Mrs. Eric Bloom, of Dayton, and Mrs. Elias
Humphrey of this place. He also leaves a sorrowing wife who
has been his companion for nearly fifty-seven years. Two
brothers and one sister are also left, B.W. McAnally of Popular,
Montana; A.L. McAnally of Independence Missouri and Mrs. A.L.
Stine of Holaday Creek neighborhood north od Lehigh.
Funeral service were held from the home Sunday
afternoon at 2 o'clock conducted by Elder Scriven of the
Adventist church of Nevada assisted by Elder Stewart of
Fort Dodge. Elder Scriven preached a very comforting sermon
quoting texts from the Holy Word. "For we know that if our earthly
house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of
God, a house not made with hands, eternal in heavens." "For
the Lord himself shall descend from heaven and shout, with the
voice of the archangel, and with the trump (sic) of God, and the
dead in Christ shall rise first." The services were attended by
many friends and neighbors of the deceased. Mr. McAnally
lived a good life, square, honorable and upright and his death
is mourned by all. Interment was made in Otho cemetery to
await the coming of the Lord.

William married Kate Corey on 6 Oct 1867 in Border Plains, Webster County, Iowa, USA. Kate was born on 13 Dec 1851 in Scales Mound, Jo Daviess County, Illinois, USA; died on 10 Dec 1939 in Lehigh, Webster County, Iowa, USA; was buried in Otho, Webster County, Iowa, USA, Otho Cemetery. 1860 Census for Rochester Twp., dwelling #1246 lists a Thomas McAnnally, age 24, born in Indiana, farmer. Wife Sarah, age 21, born Indiana, daughter, Elizabeth, age 1. Real Estate: $800, Personal property $200. This is not the son of Wm. R., as his son Thomas was married to Nan in 1856. This is possibly a nephew.

Re: Ms. Mendes last paragraph above-- compiler has found numerous situations in the census enumerations were individuals within a given household are recorded with the wrong given name, e.g. "Mary" where it should read "Sarah", etc. This type of error is not at all uncommon. For this reason, the "Thomas McAnnally, age 24..." that Ms. Mendes found enumerated in dwelling #1246, may still be the appropriate "Thomas", i.e. son of William R.
